Burra 500

The Burra took place from 17 to 20 June in the KZN Midlands, starting and finishing in Pietermaritzburg.

It is a 507 km ride with 10 000m of climbing which has to be completed in 60 hours.

Riders ride solo, are not allowed to get any outside support not even from fellow riders.

You are given a route for your Garmin and one has to self-navigate.

You have to be self-supporting with food and water. You can only get on the ride from shops, etc, what any other rider could get.

There are only 15 riders.

It is all very “Under the radar” with everything done via apps. So very much about self-achievement.

Kim and I met at the Trans Portugal race. Future races and adventures were always chatted about. Kim mentioned the Burra which I had never heard about but I was interested in something new and different. A few weeks ago I got the call from Kim that the Burra was on – am I keen? With an open calendar I immediately entered. The Burra turned out to be an exciting and very tough adventure which I am very grateful that I could share with Kim and her experience is such extreme events.
