The Trail Seeker was a one day race starting at Le Plaisir Merle wine farm. The trails covered the beautiful and stunning and brutal Boschendal and Banhoek MTB trails. A week after Atta this was going to be a tough one. Many overseas and Epic riders had entered to experience trails which will be part of the upcoming Epic.
Conditions were cool but dusty. It was a 61km route with 1577m of climbing and completed in 3h47. I had ridden many of the routes earlier before but in different directions and speeds. There was also a 40 km and 20 km route which were so popular for school kids. It was so nice to see a well attended race across so many age groups and experiences. Finished off with a large beer (rehydration) and a burger. A serious fun day out so close to home. We do live in a beautiful part of the world.
- Interesting points
- Race promoted for 70 km so was settling down for the final stretch when it suddenly finished at 61 km – I missed my last few km 😉
- Water and Skratch hydration again worked well.
- Boschendal and Banhoek trails should definitely be on very MTB list. Friends S&A stayed at lovely local B&B and there are plenty.
- The Berry Farm on Boschendal side of Helshoogte pass is worth a visit for lovely food but also lots of fresh berries and fraction of store prices.
