Over the weekend I got super excited that next Sunday I would start Stage 1. The race has been such feel-good goal for me to look forward to and now it is all happening. All my kit was laid out and lists checked making sure that I have everything I need for the 8 days.
On Monday they sent us the race pack manual giving all the rules, contestants, start times and route details. I again studied the daily routes and profiles in more detail. Reality struck that this is an extreme event. Day 2 & 3, although less than 100km there is over 2500m of climbing. Day 5 with 196km is going to be a long day out. Followed by day 7 with 146km and 1926m. The last day was changed from previous years and now 113km 1687m.
Bike packed – thanks Justin, Dave and Andrew and Gear-Change. I was stressing about the bag as I have never used it before. With GC help worked perfectly. Another box ticked thanks again.
