I feel that wine experiences are about the occasion and memories. I spent the Easter weekend in Rooi Els with my cousin Sienie and Phillip. The Sunday started with a quick wholesome breakfast. A beautiful day so we then went on the most amazing walk through fynbos heaven and climb up Hangklip. This walk brought back so many memories of so many walks and climbs that I have experienced in our beautiful Cape mountains.
After the magnificent walk with beautiful views and weather, Phillip offered a beer tasting – to rehydrate of course. We then walked to the beach and soaked our sore legs in the ice-cold sea.
Now the serious stuff from which memories are made. Karoo lamb chops on the braai, fresh salads with lots of avocado and herbs. We enjoyed the Querciabella Chianti Classico 2017 made from biodynamically grown Sangiovese grapes. The red fruit notes complimented with some oak and tobacco. Medium bodied that got better as the wine had a chance to breathe so note to self to maybe decant next time. It was the most delicious compliment to a simple healthy lunch and energetic day out.
