It is one of those days that go into ones memory bank with gratitude for the day that was. I was awake early and decided on an early around the mountain anticlockwise MTB ride so lights were needed for the early start. I was in the zone, in the dark, focused on the climb at the front of table mountain, when my prickly porcupine companion decided to keep me company.
This little chap trotted along at his own pace in front of me. He made my day. Shortly afterwards a beautiful sunrise. A little later a different view of Lions Head from above Camps Bay on the pipe track route.
While riding this morning I smelt the cool misty sea air. That salty freshness. I realised that I missed it terribly and cannot remember when I was last in the sea. It was a hot and productive day but this evening I had this inner voice calling to go Longbeach, Noordhoek. It always has great memories of long walks also with the girls. I decided the occasion needed a special wine so selected a 2020 Iona Wild Ferment Sauvignon Blanc as my treat and headed off to Noordhoek. There is nothing like getting ones feet wet into the cold water and to feel at one with nature again. I found a big rock enjoy the sunset, to savour the lovely wine, to suck in the sea air and the sound of the waves. To just let oneself drift away with the beauty of it all. The wine which had its beginnings in the cool sea breeze of the Elgin valley at Iona, was hand-harvested and naturally fermented in oak barrels. The resulting multi-layered Sauvignon Blanc was enjoyed and given the respect it deserved at such a beautiful spot.
